The Plaza at Riverfront Park hasn’t been the same since Zengo closed its doors. With it’s amazing food, large gathering space bar, and enticing outdoor park facing patio, Zengo was a locals favorite. It was the place to meet and greet your friends, neighbors, and more than a few of marriages resulted from first dates here. The restaurant thrived when the density of Riverfront Park was roughly half of what it is now. Looking at it from a foot traffic and population size, if someone put in a restaurant in today that matched local demand it should be filled every day. So what
Here’s a little flashback to the menu that made it a local’s favorite.
Since Zengo left nothing has captured the heart of the Riverfront, and Downtown Denver, community like they did. A restaurant made a go of it, but didn’t seem to connect with residents. Then there was a temporary run of a Kum & Go, which did seem like an ill fit to take advantage of an outdoor dining space located right on a public park.
So now the big question is, who will save this amazing restaurant space and restore it as a neighborhood favorite? Perhaps the onus falls on us, as Riverfront Park residents, to share some insight into what we would love to see. Would another high end restaurant be the perfect fit once again? Perhaps something casual, or even a place for brews, as McLaughlins once was. Please share your dream scenario for what might be the next great addition to the plaza in Riverfront Park.
